"Rs. 350 million has been released for Maoist"

Coinciding to the remarks of Ian Martin, Special Representative of UN Secretary General that living conditions of the Maoist cantonment sites was poor in terms shelter, sanitation and access to basic services as water and electricity, Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat said the government had no lacking to provide budget to the Maoists.

Speaking to the journalists on Monday at the office of Ministry of Finance, Minister Mahat claimed that the government was providing adequate sum to the Maoists.

The Maoist leadership and legislators have been complaining that the government neglected the proper management of the cantonment sites wherein Maoists combatants have been sheltered.

Minister Mahat informed that the government has released Rs. 350 million for the temporary management of the cantonment sites. He also informed that a sum of Rs. 30 million has been already spent to manage the facility of physical infrastructure.

According to Minister Mahat, of Rs. 350 million, Rs. 154 million was released for dispatching foods, Rs. 60 million for accommodation, Rs. 4 million for furniture, Rs. 105 million building construction in the camps and Rs. 7 million for other purposes.

Minister Mahat also claimed that the facilities of electricity, road and telephone were already managed in the cantonment sites stating that process of providing these facilities to other 21 sub cantonment sites was underway.
