FPTP vote counting over, Maoists win 120 seats

After 11 days of the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls on April 10, 2008, the counting of the vote under the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) has completed on Monday.

According to final result of FPTP, the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (CPN-M) has won 120 seats emerging as the largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Nepali Congress (NC), which was the largest party in the parliament after election in 1999, is in second stand with 37 seats followed by the Communist Party of Nepa-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) with 33 seats.

Collectiong its all votes from Terai region, the Madhesi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) bagged 30 seats becoming major Madhesh-based party while Terai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) won 9 seats.

Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhavana Party has bagged 4 seats. Two seats each have been won by Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), Peoples Front Nepal (PFN) and independent candidates while Rastriya Janamorcha won one seat.

The counting of votes under Proportional Representation (PR) system, too, is expected to complete today.
