A meeting of the Interim Legislature Parliament has been deferred till 2 pm tomorrow after today's meeting removed the possibility of constitutional crisis following the proposal of amending interim constitution tabled by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Paudel.

Minister Paudel has proposed that the interim constitution to be amended should dictate that Constituent Assembly (CA) elections should be held by mid April, 2008.

Today's meeting has also passed a bill regarding Banking Conviction and Punishment tabled by Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat.

Meanwhile, the interim constitution will incorporate a statement that dictates 'Nepal will go into federal republican order'. The meeting of seven political party held this evening reached an agreement to this end.

The meeting also agreed to increase the numbers of the members to 601 to be elected for the Constituent Assembly. The leaders have agreed to elect 335 members through fully proportional electoral system, 240 members through first- past-the post electoral system and 26 members through nominations. Before this, 240 seats were fixed equally for both of the electoral systems and 17 for nominations. As per the new agreement, 26 members of the CA will be nominated by the Prime Minister.

The meeting also agreed to hold elections by mid-April this year.

The seven-party meeting held at Baluwatar today morning had formed a team to finalize the disputed issues after political parties could not find solution of political stalemate. The task force includes Dr Babu Ram Bhattarai of the CPN-Maoist, Bharat Mohan Adhikari of UML, Bimalendra Nidhi of Nepali Congress, Lila Mani Pokhrel of People's Front Nepal and C.
