In less than a week that power cut duration was increased to 15 hours a week, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has extended power cut duration to 36 hours a week for every household to be effective from Thursday.

As per the new schedule announced by NEA, every household will now face six hours of load shedding every day for six days a week.  The consumers will enjoy one day load shedding holiday.

Due to deep power inadequacy, NEA has been unable to meet the power demands. The NEA is facing power demands of over 700 MW while its supply capacity has declined to 500 MW as the water level of snow-fed rivers have gone down.

The load shedding hours have been divided into four shifts – morning, daytime, evening and night time. In the morning time, power will be cut between 5 am – 8 am; 6 am – 9 am; and 8 am – 11 am. The daytime schedule involves power cuts between 9 am – 12 noon; 12 noon – 3 pm; and 3 pm – 6 pm. while in the evening, the power will be cut between   5 pm – 8 pm; 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm; and 6 pm – 9 pm. Similarly, the night time schedule includes 9 pm to 12 am , 12 am to 3 am and 3 am to 6 am .
