The newly appointed Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Dr Sheel Kant Sharma on Sunday met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter's official residense in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
During the meeting, Dr Sharma discussed on the expansion of south Asian assistance with the PM Koirala. He also informally invited PM Koirala to attend upcoming SAARC Summit to be held on August at Colombo in Srilanka.
Expressing commitment to extend all kinds of support to the SAARC countries on behalf of Nepal, PM Koirala also urged SAARC to stress on poverty alleviation and infrastructure development in SAARC region.
In the meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Rukmangud Katawal on Sunday morning met PM Koirala at Baluwatar. CoAS briefed PM about the latest security situation in the country.
According to reports, the duo also discussed the integration of the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army and the Nepal Army.
