A team of six Japanese arms monitors have arrived in Kathmandu Saturday afternoon.
The military team, which is unarmed, is part of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), which is monitoring Nepal’s peace process, a press statement issued by the Japanese Embassy said.
The dispatch of arms monitors would also greatly contribute to further strengthening the bilateral relations between Japan and Nepal, the embassy said.
Along with the six monitors, three foreign affairs officials have come here to assist the troops, according to officials.
Japan had sent two fact-finding missions in late January and early March, to determine the situation in Nepal for the SDF troops, according to Kyodo Press.
With the arrival of the Japanese, the strength of the UN monitors in Nepal will reach 99 this weekend.
Earlier, the Japanese government had approved the dispatch of arms monitors to Nepal under the UNMIN.
