Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Moday has assured the agitating freed Kamaiyas that their demands for resettlement would be met within the next three months.

After meeting with PM Koirala at his residence in Baluwatar, Freed Kamaiya leader Dilli Chaudhary told reporters that the government has given assurance to resettle all Kamaiyas in the next three months.

Chaudhary quoted PM Koirala as saying that the government would establish a coordination office in Banke district to accelerate the process of rehabilitation. The office would be headed by a government officer of joint secretary rank.

Minister for Land Reforms and Management Jagat Bahadur Bogati was also present during the meeting between PM Koirala and Kamaiya representatives.

Following this agreement, the freed- Kamaiyaas have agreed to stop their protest programmes.

The Sher Bahadur Deuba government had freed some 32 thousand Kamaiyas, ending the ill tradition practiced in Banke, Bardiya, Kailali, Kanchanpur and Dang district.
