The meeting of eight political parties held on Tuesday again ended without making any breakthrough on much awaited agenda of setting a date to the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls and reviewing the report of Electoral Constituency Delimitation Commission (ECDC).

CPN-UML remained stick with its stance of proportional electoral system while Nepali Congress insisted on mixed electoral system. In the meeting, Maoist said that it would write note of dissent if the date for CA polls would be announced amidst the disagreements.

The top leaders have decided to form a task force led by Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula to study the report of ECDC before reviewing it. After the meeting, United Leftist Front (ULF) leader C P Mainali said that the meeting agreed to study the report of ECDC before setting the date for CA polls as resumption of parliamentary proceeding was essential to pass some laws regarding the CA polls.

Annulment of the report of ECDC has been the demand of Madhesi lawmakers and they have been obstructing the parliamentary proceeding for this cause. “There is no meaning in fixing the date for election without resumption of house”- CP Mainali said.

The task force has been assigned to submit the report of study over ECDC report.

The meeting had started at around 4:45 pm at the PM's official residence. The meeting was deferred for the second time on Monday due to differences of opinion on a number of issues.

The next meeting is scheduled to be held at 8.00 AM Thursday.
