Bhrikuti Pulp and Paper Limited located at Gaindakot of Nawalparasi district has been closed for last 4 days due to the strike called by around 200 of its employees. The employees have launched the strike demanding appointment letters and wages as specified in the Labor Act.
The striking workers include those involved in loading, unloading and arranging necessary raw materials. Owing to the stoppage of this vital process, even permanent employees who arrived at the factory were left workless, forcing all activities to a standstill.
The workers working in daily wage basis have demanded the factory management to provide facilities as per the Labor Act, fix daily wages at Rs. 125, provide workers with proper appointment letters, and cancel the ton system restricting goods carriers and to start the process of giving workers permanent status.
The workers have also accused the management of unfair practices while providing work. They claimed that the management had been calling them daily but would not provide regular work and sent them back. The strikers, including women and children, have demanded to be provided permanent status immediately.
Coordinator of the agitation committee Peshal Kumar Pariyar said that despite an earlier agreement, management failed to enforce it.
