India exempts 4 percent custom duty on more commodities
India has exempted additional four percent customs duty on some more commodities that is exported in India. Issuing a press release, Indian embassy said India exempted the custom duty from January 27 pushing up the number of categories of foods enjoying such exemption to 111 as per the request of the Nepal government.
With this exemption, all Nepali products for which Nepal government had requested for waiver and provided requisite information have been covered, said press release said.
Indian government had imposed four percent additional custom duty to all the commodities to be imported from other countries through the announcement of new budget in last March. Despite this decision, India exempted the duty in case of Nepal as per the request it made.
During his visit to India in last June, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala had made a request to the Indian government to waive such additional customs duty. Earlier, India had exempted such duties from some commodities. India began slapping this duty since May of last year.
