With the resumption of protest by Madheshi Janatantrik Forum (MJF), life in eastern Terai and other parts of the country has been affected on Monday.
Most industries and shops in the Sunsari and Morang have remained shut while markets in Itahari, Jhumka, Duhabi, Junapur and Inaruwa also remain closed. The local transportation services also halted all the day.
Agitators have obstructed the roads on the Itahari- Koshi section of the East-West highway, preventing operation of emergency services like ambulance. The activists of the MJF have shut down the customs office check post in Gaur of Rautahat, stopping the inflow of goods from India to Nepal.
Similarly, the strike announced by the agitating forum has severely affected life in Nawalparasi. Although a few vehicles plied on the streets of the main highway, the inner roads nevertheless were empty. The headquarters Parasi and Maheshwor bazaar remained shut.
Life in Dhankuta also remained disturbed because of the Mechi-Koshi banda called by the Nepal Federation of the Indigenous Nationalities, demanding federal set-up, right to self-governance, and racial autonomy. Vehicular movement on the Dharan-Dhankuta highway and Koshi highway is nil with the Dhankuta market and all educational institutions completely shut.
