Madhav Kumar Nepal, General Secretary of Communist Party of Nepal United Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Sunday said that Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala must give up if he was incapable of holding constituent assembly election even in coming November.

Addressing the first death anniversary Anil Lama who attained martyrdom during Jana Aandolan II, Nepal said, “The person, who has been leading the interim government, must give up if he is unable to conduct constituent assembly election for which he was elected unopposed by the interim legislature-parliament,” Nepal said.

He also claimed that the reason behind the polls deferral was the fear of the Nepali Congress that communist might sweep the CA polls.

“The only reason behind deferring the assembly election was that the NC was apprehensive that the Leftist and republican forces would emerge victorious,” Nepal said.

He said it was wrong to equally blame all the constituents of the eight-party alliance for the deferment of the assembly polls.

Nepal stressed the need to consolidate the 8-party unity to achieve the goal of establishing a republic, restructuring of the state, federal system of governance and making a new constitution through the assembly election.

Maya Lama, the widow of Anil Lama, said that without making any delay the parties should go for the republic to fulfill the dreams of those who sacrificed their lives for new Nepal.
