NAC decides to increase pilots’ salary
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has decided to increase pilots' allowances bringing the total monthly salary and allowance up to around Rs. 2 hundred thousands from existing around Rs. 80 thousands in average.
The meeting of the board of directors of the corporation held on Sunday endorsed a proposal of salary increment. An official at NAC told that the decision was taken to stop current trend of pilots leaving the corporation.
The pilots of NAC were dissatisfied with the existing provision of salary and allowance. Last week, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) had given green light to the corporation to increase salary.
A report quoted an unnamed source as saying that the salary of the pilots might rise up to Rs. 4 hundred thousands when new aircraft would be added to the NAC's fleet giving pilots a chance to operate flights to the maximum extent.
This decision follows a report of the committee formed by NAC to suggest ways to retain the currently working pilots.
In the last six months, three senior captains of Boeing aircraft and three captains of Twin-Otter left the corporation due to lucrative salary in foreign airlines. Now, around 55 pilots have been working with the NAC, of which nine fly in the domestic sector.
