Agitating employees of Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) have warned to stop the supply of water to the Royal Palace, Singh Durbar, Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, minister’s quarters and Birendra International Convention Center from Sunday afternoon.

They went to this effect protesting the government’s move of amending Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) Act. Nepal Water Supply Corporation (NWSC) is soon to cede control of Kathmandu Valley's water supply system to the recently registered Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Ltd following endorsement of NWSC Act 2007 by parliament.

They have termed the decision of the parliament as a move of "splitting the corporation" stating that privatizing an essential resource like water was against the consumers' rights.

Gopi Khadka, chairman of NWSC Employees’ Association said that the endorsement of the act was controversial that promoted undemocratic acts.

The employees informed that unlike common consumers, who receive water supply from half-inch pipes at low pressure, the palace, Singh Durbar and the Prime Minister’s residence receive water from five-inch pipes at full pressure.
