“Nepal needs to reformulate industrial policy”

The speakers at a program organized in the capital on Friday have opined that Nepal needs to reformulate the existing industrial and trade policy.

Speaking at a seminar titled “Trade Policy and Export Diversification” jointly organized by South Asia Watch on Trade Economics & Environment (SAWTEE) and Action Aid Nepal, Bharat Bahadur Thapa, Secretary at the Minister of Industry, Commerce & Supplies, said Nepal will need to revisit and reformulate its industrial, investment and trade policies in the near future.

He also opined that trade negotiation was a challenge for Nepal in the present context as Nepal had to find a balance between the multilateral and bilateral agreements.

Sriram Pande, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP said that Nepal should focus on advocating.

Similarly, Chandi Raj Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), said that Nepal was unable to formulate appropriate policies as well as implementing them.

On the occasion, Navin Dahal, Executive Director and Shivaraj Bhatta, Economist of SAWTEE had made presentations on the findings of the research studies.
