Snowfall in Kathmandu, two died in Rolpa in snow
Kathmandu valley on Wednesday noon witnessed the first snowfall after 62 years. The last snowfall had occurred in January 6, 1944 in Kathmandu. Incessant rainfall and rising cold in the wake of climate change has affected life in various parts of the country.
The downpour and snowfalls in the various part of the country was caused by westerly effect that is shifting east.
According to Senior Divisional Meteorologist at Meteorological Forecasting Division Krishna Bahadur Manandhar, the temperature of Kathmandu Valley was 3 degree Celsius on Wednesday noon.
He also said that there was no possibility of the snow freezing as the weather condition was improving gradually.
Hilltops in the outskirts of Kathmandu including Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarkot, Nagarjun, Lakhuribhanjyang were also under a three-foot-thick blanket of snow on Wednesday.
Dolakha, Rasuwa, Solukhumbu, Palpa, Kalikot, Sankhuwasabha and Parbat districts saw heavy snow fall while Dhulikhel in Kavre district witnessed one feet of snowfall in some 40-45 years.
Meanwhile, two individuals are reported to have died under snow. The deceased are yet to be identified.
