As the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) stopped its financial assistance, participatory conservation program in the buffer zone of Parsa Wildlife Reserve (PWR) has been terminated from Monday.

According to an official at the PWR, the donor agency pulled out its support citing Maoist obstruction to operate the programs in some villages, and absence of effective government policies to address issues pertaining to the buffer zone.

The program was in operation in 11 VDCs of Makawanpur, Bara and Parsa districts.
Development work and awareness programs, which were underway for some years, have been left incomplete.

The UNDP had been providing 5.5 million rupees each year since 2002.
The PWR official also said PWR would not be able to run the program independently.
