In his message on the occasion of the first Loktantra Day, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has affirmed that the achievements made by Janaandolan II exactly a year ago can never be usurped.
"Today, Baishakh 11, is a historic day when democratic practice was established in the country," Koirala said in his message. "The people's indefatigable courage, unwavering determination, and heroic sacrifices in the people's movement that moved ahead to promote their rights and welfare achieved the desired success on this day exactly a year ago, and has now reached a height from which no one can ever usurp it."
Koirala added, "This day has entrusted on all of us the responsibility to establish peace in the country, and build a new, affluent and progressive Nepal by bringing to an end crisis and conflict.”
Commemorating, and expressing heartfelt respect to those who achieved martyrdom during Janaandolan II, Koirala said, "The responsibility left to us by them (martyrs), their aim and dream can reach the desired goal only through national unity, mutual comradeship and agreements. All of us should be aware of this fact. This historic day has given us exactly this message. I urge and appeal to everyone to be sensitive toward this."
"The responsibilities left behind by them, their objectives and dreams can be fulfilled only through national unity, mutual goodwill and understanding," PM stated.
Likewise, UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has said in his message that the country now shoulders the historic duty of conducting Constituent Assembly elections, building democratic republic, federal restructuring and inclusive democracy to bring about socio-economic transformation.
Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that holding of CA elections to institutionalise the people's mandate would justify the celebrations of Loktantra's anniversary.
Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani, acting president of Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP), has compared last year's People's Movement with the popular revolution of 1950.
