The police at Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) on Monday, seized Rs 4 million Indian Currency (IC) from three persons who had arrived Kathmandu from Kaula Lumpur.

They were caught during a security check while trying to smuggle Rs 4 million in 500s and 1000s denominations – illegal in Nepal -- in the false bottoms of four bags through airport customs, a report quoted SSP Prakash Kunwar, chief of the airport security

They had landed Kathmandu in a flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation flight from Kuala Lumpur and were arrested after receiving a “special tip off,” the police said.

The police have not yet revealed the names of arrested persons officially, though reports said that two of the arrested three have been identified as Rajendra Pandey and Rajendra Acharya.

This is for the first time that the TIA seized such a large sum of IC.
