A cabinet meeting on Wednesday has approved tune composed by veteran musician Amber Gurung for the new National Anthem.
Of the half a dozen compositions submitted to the cabinet for final selection – three by Gurung, one by Nhyu Bajracharya and one each by the Nepal Police (NP) and Nepal Army (NA) – the Council of Ministers selected Gurung’s tune the best for the National Anthem written by Byakul Maila.
The new national anthem " Sayaun Thunga Phoolka Hami Eutai Mala Nepali ..." written by Maila, was approved as the new national anthem on November 30 last year.
The National Anthem Selection Task Team (NASTT) had selected poet Byakul Maila's song as the new National Anthem of Nepal.
On May 18, House Proclamation of the reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) had declared the earlier National Anthem " Shree man ghambhir Nepali prachanda pratapi bhupati..." null and void.
The old national Anthem adopted in 1899 was criticised for being just a melody praising the monarchy. It was music composed by Bakhatbir Budhapirthi and written by Chakrapani Chalise.
