Expressing shock over the Gaur killings, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour on Friday has appealed Nepal government to initiate a ‘complete’ and ‘impartial’ investigation into the incident.

Issuing a press statement from her Geneva office, Arbour requested Nepali officials to make accountable to those found involved in the incident of the killings of at least ‘25’ persons.

"My Representative has today been visiting the site of the incident in Gaur to assess the situation and to support her teams currently in the region in investigating the circumstances which led to the many killings and injuries," Arbor said in the statement "Our teams confirmed, first hand, the killing of 25 individuals, most of whom died of severe head wounds apparently caused by beatings from bamboo sticks".

Arbor also said it was the responsibility of the government and political leaders to ensure that their supporters should resolve the differences through the talks.
