Nepal Army (NA) on Saturday has decided to increase the allowance of its personnel serving in the UN Peace Keeping Mission by US $25.
After this decision, Nepal UN Peacekeepers will get US $800 (approx Rs 52,000) in allowance.
Similarly, the Nepal Army Welfare Fund (NAWF) has also decided to increase the allowance provided to incumbent and retired NA personnel by 100 percent. They will now onwards get Rs. 200.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, head of the Defence Ministry and NAWF, reached the NA headquarters, Bhadrakali, and was informed about the increment. PM Koirala was also informed by army officers that the fund currently stands at Rs 11.8 billion.
The NAWF was founded 32 years ago by deducting some amount from the allowance of those who served in the UN Peace Keeping Mission.
Brigadier General, Kul Bahadur Khadka had briefed PM Koirala about the support and benefit received by the NA soldiers and the families from the NAWF.
The fund has already been spent in education, health, housing and the economic relief sector, benefiting around 600,000 people.
A statement released by the NA said, PM Koirala expressed satisfaction over the NA activities and fund utilization.
