One killed in Nepalgunj, curfew hour extended

Guljar Khan, resident of Nepalgunj municipality-16 has been killed in the firing opened by police today in Nepalginj during curfew hour. Khan has been reportedly killed while defying curfew order clamped by local administration.

District Administration Office (DAO) Banke has extended the curfew hour for indefinitely period from 9.00 pm. Earlier, it had clamped curfew in Nepalgunj and adjoining Village Development Committees (VDCs) from 2.00 pm to 9.00 pm after clashes took place between demonstrators and police.

Police had intervened demonstrators when supporters of banda organizer  United Madhesi Democratic Front (UMDF) tried to shut market forcefully in Tribhuvan Chok.

CDO Narendraraj Sharma said the situation went tensed after the demonstrators pelted stones at the police. He also informed curfew has been clamped in Nepalgunj municipality and adjoining VDCs including Puraina, Puraini, Udayapur, Bashudevpur, Ranjha of Manikapur, Jamunaha Paraspur and Indrapur in the district.

Life has been paralyzed in several districts along east west highway due to the banda called by UMDF for last five days.
