Bird flue fear sparks ban on poultry import from India

Following a fear of bird flue, Sunsari district of eastern Nepal has banned the import of poultry products from India.

The ban has been imposed on the daily import of poultry and eggs imported via Sunsari custom office, Devanjang, Ghantabari, Laukahi, Kusaha, Magadhwa and other transit points.

The transaction of poultry products stands some 500,000 Rs. daily from India specially through Bihar.

Earlier, it was reported that the threat of bird flu spread in Jhapa district in eastern Nepal increased after the finding of avian influenza cases in Dinajpur and Birbhum areas of West Bengal of India.
