Business community of Birgunj has strongly demanded with the government to provide security following a dramatic rise in crimes in Birgunj.
Organizing a press conference in the capital Wednesday, business leaders of Birgunj strongly flayed the government for failing to provide basic security. “We are seriously concerned about threats from various criminal gangs from India," said Ganesh Lath, president of Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI).
"We are demanding security, not additional facilities or any sort of rebate on taxes."
Despite generating 40 percent of total national revenue and hosting 60 percent of industries in the country, Birgunj area has been worst affected by chronic lawlessness, Lath added.
He further warned that the majority of local business and industries will soon vanish from Birgunj if the government continued to ignore their problems. Lath also informed the press that a large number of businessmen recently shifted from Birgunj to India due to worsening security.
Expressing the dissatisfaction about the poor functioning of the ICD at Birgunj, he demanded that the dry port be operated to meet its objectives.
