Around 50 injured in Birgunj blast, UN official condemns the incident

Around 50 people have been injured when bombs blew off near Seven Party Mass meeting venue in Birgunj today. Chief District Officer Bhola Prasad Siwakoti has also been injured in the explosion.

The bombs blew off outside the Narayani stadium where Seven Party Alliance was holding mass meeting. People were staging rally when the bomb exploded. Those injured have been rushed to Narayani sub-regional hospital for treatment.

Terai Mukti Tigers has taken responsibility of the blast.

Meanwhile, special representative of the UN Secretary-General in Nepal Ian Martin has condemned the bomb attack. Martin has also expressed his hope that those responsible for the incident would be identified and brought to justice.

'Violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic transition, and in particular in Nepal’s Constituent Assembly election process. Political differences must be resolved through peaceful means' Martin added in the press statement issued this evening.
