Britain hands over de-mining equipment to Nepal

British government has handed over a number of de-mining equipment to Nepali Army (NA) to clear landmines and explosives planted during the conflict period.

According to NA general Lok Thapa, it has obtained 20 personal protective shields along with 80 visors. The NA had requested for 80 protective shields, helmets and visors. Remaining equipments are expected to be delivered soon, reports Kantipur daily.

For the purpose of de-mining, equipment such as personal protective shields, helmets, visors and mine detectors are needed along with trained manpower.

The army has already mapped landmine-ridden sites in its 51 security camps. It has said that it will take three to nine months for 28 technicians to de-mine one camp.

The technology of de-mining will be adopted from the one used in Cambodia.
