Stating that British government's declaration on providing pension was unfair, the Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen's Organization (GAESO) and Liberal Democratic Party of Britain on Tuesday announced a nine-day protest program.
They have said the new announcement would benefit only 600 Gurkhas while 40,000 pensioners who retired before the cut-off date would be deprived of this provision.
Recently, British government had decided to provide the pension to the Gurkhas pensioners who joined the army after July 1, 1997 on par with the facilities enjoyed by their British army.
Padam Bahadur Gurung, president of GAESO, said at a press conference that the decision of the British government was unjust. He also said Liberal Democratic Party, British Members of Parliament (MPs), journalists and the British citizens have expressed support to the protest program.
The Britons have announced to launch the International Gurkha Justice Week and have welcomed the veterans and single woman from Nepal on March 26, the first day of the protest program.
GAESO has also directed all its members to stage a sit-in program before British embassies in various countries on the same day.
Other programs of the protest include organizing a film show on March 29 and a one-hour sit-in program in front of the PM's office gates for 13 days from March 30 onwards to honor the 13 Victoria Cross awardees.
