Newly elected members of the constituent assembly (CA) were sworn-in amidst a function on Tuesday at the Birendra International Convention Center (BICC) in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.
As the oldest member in the CA, Nepali Congress (NC) leader Kul Bahadur Gurung, 73, took the first oath of office and secretary and administered the oath to other members of the CA.
Although, PM Koirala, 84, is the eldest CA member, 73 year old Gurung administered the oath to the other members as Koirala still remains as the Prime Minister.
According reports, 568 of total 601 members took oath Tuesday as parties have not nominated 26 others members and some five seats remain vacant due to candidates winning from two constituencies.
Meanwhilem, the CA court has issued an order not to allow Sarat Singh Bhandari and Bisamlal Adhikari at the swearing-in ceremoney of the CA members as they have been charged with vote rigging.
Madhesi People’s Right’s Forum (MPRF)’s candidate Bhandari is winner from Mohattarri constitueny-6 and Adhikari is winner of CPN-UML from Sindhuli constituency-1.
All the top leaders including PM and NC president Girija Prasad koirala, Maoist chairman Prachanda, UML general secretary Jhalanath Khanal, Madhesi Janadhikar Forum chairman Upendra Yadav and NWPP leader Narayan Man Bijukchhe among others were present at the ceremony.
