Chandi Raj Dhakal, president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) and the Managing Director of Momento Apparels, has deposited Rs 8.6 million in cash and three plots of land worth Rs 16.9 million on Thursday.
Dhakal is running away since Monday to avoid possible detention on tax evasion charges.
However, the bail procedure couldn't be finalized as one of the three plots of land submitted for bail could not be valued during the office time.
According to an RID source, some lawyers and Dhakal's well-wishers approached the RID in the morning and made enquiries about the bail procedures. Later they handed over a voucher for Rs 8.6 million, which they had deposited in the RID's bail account, said the source.
They also brought land ownership certificates of three plots situated in Jhapa and Chitwan districts to cover the remaining portion of the bail amount totaling Rs 25.5 million.
"We couldn't bail out Dhakal today as the procedure for verification of a plot of land remained incomplete," said the source. Most probably, all the remaining procedures would be completed by tomorrow, added the source.
RID has accused Dhakal's Memento Apparels, the largest garment factory in the country, of cheating Rs 8.6 million in customs duty by producing forged documents.
RID issued an arrest warrant after Dhakal repeatedly defied its summons to record a statement on the charges.
