China on Sunday has agreed to provide US$ 2.6 million ( Rs 207 million rupees) worth military assistance to Nepal to consolidate its security forces and peace process.
An agreement was signed to this effect after the two sides held talks at the Ministry of Defense where Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal' headed the Nepali delegation.
The agreement was signed by Nepal's Defense Secretary Baman Prasad Neupane and Lieutenant General Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of General Staff of People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
According to Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, the aid will be used for security issues including the integration of People’s Liberation Army into Nepal Army and consolidation of security forces.
The 10-member Chinese delegation led by Xiaotian including four major generals had arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday.
During their stay in Nepal, the delegation is scheduled to visit Pokhara and Lumbini. They will also meet with the president, vice president, prime minister and other senior officials.
