Maoists start donation drive for 'Madi victims'

Maoists have started donation drive in Chitawan district. They have said the donation drive was conducted to provide compensatory relief to the victims of Madi incident occurred in June 6, 2005.

A trade organization close to the CPN- Maoist, Federation of All Nepal Trade Union (FANTU) started to collect donations from Tuesday setting up barriers in Gondrang of Bharatpur municipality-12 and Ramnagar of Narayangarh-Mugling section of Mahendra highway.

The activists of FANTU have hoisted their party flag and banners at the barrier and requesting people to contribute for the purpose. They have been collecting donations from transportation workers.

FANTU member Hira Thapa claimed that they were not forcing people to donate in the campaign, rather requesting to contribute as per their wish. He also added that the donation collection was started following a deliberate order of center.

According him, women's organization and students' organization close to CPN-M would also collect the donation.

Total 39 civilian were killed and at least 70 were injured in Bandarmudhe, Madi of Chitwan in land mine explosion planted by the Maoist. Maoists had apologized that the incident was the mistake.

Many people who sustained serious injuries have still been having treatment on their own. CPN-M had announced that party would provide compensation to the victims.
