The continued strikes announced by the Chure Bhawar Ekta Samaj and Madhesi Tigers have paralysed the normal life in mid and eastern Terai.
The bandh has left thousands of passengers stranded at different places along the East West Highway while marketplaces, academic institutions and transport services have been affected in Terai districts of Siraha, Saptari, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Sunsari, Morang, Sarlahi and Rautahat.
The Chure-Bhawar strike continues since last six days despite the government’s talks offer to the Samaj to resolve the problems politically.
According to reports, over 4000 passengers—bound for Kathmandu and south from north—have been left hungry and helpless for a week now in places like Kamala and Porta on the Dhanusha stretch of the Mahendra Highway.
Likewise, life in eastern Terai continued to be affected on the second day of the two-day banda announced by the Madhesi Tigers.
The Tigers hurled a socket bomb at a microbus carrying journalists in Sunsari this morning. However, the six reporters traveling by the microbus escaped unhurt as the attackers missed the target, reports said.
Meanwhile, protesters have burned and vandalized more than half-a-dozen vehicles for defying the strike.
