The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) said it retrieved Rs. 40.7 million from the corruption-convicted cases during the fiscal year of 2006/007.

Submitting a report to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the CIAA reported that it has deposited the amount to the state coffers. The CIAA submitted 285 pages long report to the Prime Minister on Friday.

The report has requested the government to help the CIAA adopt the new technologies to investigate the cases more effectively. The CIAA has suggested the government to set up its regional offices to curb corruption at the regional and local levels.

The CIAA had registered 115 corruption cases in the Special Court during the period of last fiscal year. According to the report, out of the total cases, the CIAA had filed 93 fake certificate cases, nine cases relating to misuse of the state coffers, eight cases relating to illegally- registered vehicles, three bribery cases, one corruption case relating to construction and one case relating to the misuse of public land.

The Special Court has already handled 171 graft cases during the fiscal year. The CIAA said 140 cases claimed by the CIAA were proved which is 81 per cent success rate of the anti-graft body.
