In a bid to reverse the strike- affected life in Terai, Eastern Regional Administration Office Dhankuta has issued directive to all the District Administration Offices (DAOs) of eastern Terai.
It has also directed all the DAOs to curb any group that pose obstructions in the smooth flow of vehicles on the highways.
Eastern Terai which is known as industrial region of Nepal is also considered a gateway for trade transaction to India. Due to frequent strikes, vehicles could not ply through transit points.
Recently, interim legislature parliament has endorsed an act to curb the people who pose obstructions on the highways.
The regional administration has asked DAOs to apply this law to take action against those involved in obstructing vehicular movements. The life in eastern Terai has been crippled for a long time following the banda (general strike) called by several groups.
Under-Administrator of eastern regional administration, Mohan Prasad Pokhrel said the directive was issued taking into account public's convenience in the threshold of Dashain and Tihar, the important festivals of Nepalese people. He said police would petrol and escort the vehicles plying in the highways.
Mainly Biratnagar, Hedauda, Birgunj, Inaruwa of Terai has been facing severe disturbances due to the strikes. Terai region has bore a significant loss due to the continuous strikes.
