Donor Agencies have expressed disappointment to the decision of providing sum of Rs. 1 million to the lawmakers under parliamentarian development fund.
Representatives from various countries and donor agencies had held meeting with Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat today.
A source said American Ambassador Nancy J Pawel expressed disappointment with Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat in a meeting stating that it was not reasonable to provide that sum in the threshold of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. In response, Minister Mahat had made it clear that the decision followed the provision incorporated in fiscal budget.
According to Krishna Hari Baral, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Finance, Minister Mahat said the representatives that the expenditure of the government went up as it invested in providing relief to conflict victims, managing ineligible Maoist combatants and constituting different commissions. He also urged them to keep assistance for CA elections through Peace Fund.
Envoys of America, Denmark, Britain, Finland, Japan, India, China, and Switzerland among other were present in the meeting. Similarly, representatives of World Bank and Asian Development Bank including other donor agencies had also participated the meeting.
