Rs. 515 million invested for deferred CA elections
The Election Commission (EC) has invested Rs. 515 million for deferred Constituent Assembly (CA) elections. The EC said the sum was released for the preparation of the elections scheduled for November 22 this year. The EC has already scrapped all the programs of elections following the decision of the government to put off the election for indefinite period.
Organizing a press conference in the capital, the EC disclosed the expenditures of election preparation. Total Rs. 51,51,61,000 was spent for the preparation of the elections. The expenditure cost includes publicity of the elections, organizing trainings, printing of booklets among other.
The EC has made it clear that the details of the expenditure presented was preliminary one. According to the EC, Rs. 230,00,000 was spent during the fiscal year of 2006/007 and Rs. 280000000 was spent in the fiscal year 2007/008.
Chief election commissioner Bhojraj Pokhrel informed that the EC has received technical assistance and equipments worth around Rs. 54o million from several donor countries and international organizations. Commissioner Pokhrel also said the EC had already made preparation and arrangement of communication centers, materials required for elections and implementation and monitoring of the elections.
Commissioner Pokhrel said everything except human resource and policy went wasted after the deferment of the elections.
