EC completes vote counting, Maoist leads in proportional too

The Election Commission (EC) has completed the vote counting for the whole country under the proportional representation. The Maoists has led the tally with 31, 44,204 votes out of the total 1, 07, 39,078 votes cast.

Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) has placed itself in the second position bagging 22, 69,883. Likewise, Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) is in third position with 21, 83,370 votes.

The Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) and Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), newly formed parties are in fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with 678,327 and 338,930 votes.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is in sixth position with 263,431 votes. Marxist Leninist Party has bagged 243,545, Sadbhawana Party 167,517 votes, People's Front Nepal 164,381 votes, CPN-United 154,968 votes and others have accumulated 11,30,522 votes.

The EC has said that it would apply Modified Saint Logue system to calculate exact number of seats won by these parties based on votes they have garnered.

According to preliminary estimation, the Maoists could be pocketing around 100 seats while NC and UML will bag in the region of 60 to 70 seats each. The MJF could have nearly two dozen seats. There are 335 seats on offer under PR category and roughly around 30,000 votes will account for one seat.

Under the first-post-the-past system Maoist has bagged 120 seats which is 50 percent of total. Nepali Congress has bagged 37 seats, UML 33, MJF 30, Terai Madhes Democratic Party 9, Sadbhawana-Mahato 4, Nepal Peasant Workers Party  2, People's Front Nepal 2, National People's Front 1 and Independents have bagged 2 seats.
