Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti on Thursday urged the government to hold constituent assembly polls in mid-November.

Stating that polls cannot be held before the Dashain festival, Upreti told journalists  that mid-November is the most appropriate time for holding them.

"Announcing a date for an election six months in advance will give the Election Commission (EC) ample time to prepare for it," Upreti said.

He also said that the government has been taking the EC as one of its departments.

"The Election Commission is not under the government. It is rather accountable to the people and the nation only." He added that the EC has completed 95 per cent of its job for the CA polls.
