EC extends date for closed list submission

Following the request of seven party alliance, the Election Commission on Sunday extended the deadline for submission of closed lists of candidates for proportional representation based election in Constituent Assembly (CA) election for five days. 

The EC this morning decided to extend the deadline for October 4 following the request of the seven political parties. 

Issuing a press statement, the EC said the political parties could register the nominations for proportional representation based election system by October 2.

Seven political parries yesterday had decided to request the EC to extend the date after they fail to reach consensus on the electoral system.

The EC has also extended the deadline for submission for the first-past-the post system to October 8. Still, political parties will take a few days to reach consensus on the electoral system. Nepali Congress has insisting that mix electoral system should be adopted for polls while the Maoist is stick with its demand of fully proportional electoral system.
