Following an agreement between the eight political parties, the All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), the student wing of the CPN-Maoist, on Sunday withdrew the indefinite educational strike.
The eight parties have agreed to release 65 students arrested during a clash between two student unions.
According to a statement by the ANNISU-R, the academic strike was called off following a meeting of the nine student unions in the capital and the meeting of the top leaders of the eight political parties' agreement to release the arrested ANNISU-R cadres.
ANNISU-R chairman Lekh Nath Neupane, in the statement, said that the strike was called off also because the student unions have realized the mistakes on their parts.
Yesterday, ANNISU-R had called the indefinite nationwide closure of all the educational institutions demanding release of its 54 cadres arrested by the police during clashes with rival student union Nepal Student Union (NSU) on Monday at Thapathali engineering college in the capital.
