The eight major parties are holding discussion since Friday afternoon at Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's oficial residence Baluwatar. This meeting is expected to resolve the differences on the ministerial portfolios for an interim government.

According to the sources, the meeting is very close to finalizing the shape of the interim government. The eight parties held bilateral and multilateral meetings prior to the top-level meeting for formation of interim government and division of portfolios.

The top leaders are learnt to have agreed to form a small cabinet comprising one member from each party. A UML source said that the interim government could be formed only if Nepali Congress would quit its stand that it should be given all the major ministries.

Before the meeting, Maoist chairman Prachanda and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula had also agreed to form a small cabinet Friday itself.

Similarly, Prachanda and UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal also met to discuss about the formation of an interim government.

NC, especially PM Koirala had been stressing that NC should hold the ministry of finance, home and defense, as well as the post of senior Deputy Prime Minister.  PM Koirala was pressurized to come up with the satisfactory proposal on the division of ministerial portfolios.
