Norway has granted USD 2 million to Nepal for ongoing peace procress. Norwegian Minister for International Development Eric Solheim said that he was encouraged by the progress of ongoing peace process in Nepal and his country would support Nepal in this regard.
Minister Solheim who arrived in Nepal on Wednesday said this to the journalist after conferring with Prime Minister Girija Prasad koirala at later's official residence Baluwatar.
Talking to the journalists, Foreign Affairs Advisor of PM koirala, Dr. Suresh Chalise said that the discussion between PM Koirala and Minister Solheim was centered on the ongoing peace process in Nepal. Minister Solheim had expressed his commitment that Norway would continue its support to Nepal.
Prime Minister had informed Minister Solheim that interim government would be formed 'soon' and the date of the Constituent Assembly Polls would be determined after the formation of interim government.
Minister Solheim is slated to sign bilateral agreement on Norwegian support to the Nepal Peace Trust Fund Wednesday evening at Ministry of Finance.
Earlier on the same day, talking to the journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport after his arrival, Minister Solheim had said that his country would continue its assistance to Nepal. He had said that he was in Nepal to express solidarity to the peace progress in Nepal and extend support.
Solheim is also slated to hold separate meetings with United Nations Mission In Nepal (UNMIN) and the representatives of the joint arms registration and monitoring team and discuss the ongoing peace process in Nepal and the current situation of the nation.
Minister Solheim will depart to home on Thursday.
Norway is one of the donors that has increased assistance to Nepal significantly after ambassadorial residence was established in Nepal in 2000.
