The envoys of seven European countries including Britain, France and Germany have expressed anxiety over the peace process in Nepal. They also stated that existing political stalemate might disrupt ongoing peace process.
The European envoys expressed this fear during the meeting with CPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda and his deputy Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Thursday. In a one and half hour long discussions, the envoys also reiterated their commitment to support peace process in Nepal.
In the meeting held at Prachanda’s residence in Naya Bazaar, leader duo Prachanda and Dr. Bhattarai are learnt to have assured the European envoys that they would not disrupt the peace process and carry on programs of struggle in peaceful way. According to a source, the Maoist leaders said the envoys that they would retaliate against the government if the government suppressed the peaceful struggle.
The leaders duo are also learnt to have requested the envoys to help create environment of meeting their demands of declaration of republic and adoption of fully proportional system.
European envoys have geared up political consultations following few days. Calling on Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the European envoys had also expressed their concern over Nepal's political situation on Wednesday.
A delegation of European envoys led by British Ambassador to Nepal Andrew Hall had conferred with PM Koirala and offered suggestions to speed up the peace process by resolving the differences among the political parties.
The envoys had expressed concern on the situation of political stalemate in the country especially after the suspension of Constituent Assembly (CA) polls. They had also expressed anxiety over the fate of Maoist combatants taking shelter inside the cantonments.
