Delegation of the European Commission to Nepal has urged all the communities to shun violence and respect and uphold the rule of law stating that free and fair elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA) could not be held amidst the violence.

Visiting Chief Election Observer of the forthcoming EU Election Observation Mission Jan Mulder MEP said CA elections were essential part of peace process to bring Nepal closer to democracy and stability.

During its five days visit to Nepal,  EU delegation headed by Jan Mulder MEP met with Minister, Election Commissioner and high ranking officials, political leaders, civil society representatives and representatives of the international community.

The deployment of members of the core team for the EU Election Observation Mission will take place in early March followed by phased deployment of Long Term Observers and Short Term Observers to a total of around 100 observers on Election Day.

The task of the EU Election Observation Mission will be to neutrally observe the elections in Nepal, said a press release issued by EU on Thursday.
