The Constituent Assembly (CA) has fixed July 19 (Saturday, Shrawan 4, 2065 BS) to elect the first president of Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

A meeting of the CA Task Management Committee on Tuesday morning decided the date to elect the president through secret voting.

The committee reached to this decision as major parties failed to reach at a consensus on the presidential candidate.

Earlier today, a meeting held between top leaders of CPN- Maoist and CPN-UML regarding post of president had ended inconclusively.

The UML had proposed to nominate its former general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal for the post of president, but CPN-M rejected Nepal even if it was ready to give the post to the UML.

The CPN-Maoist has been opposing names of Madhav Nepal and Girija Prasad Koirala for the post of president.
