Mahat stresses effective energy supply for South Asian economy

Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat has said energy supply should be effective to boosting up South Asian economy. He also stressed to the extension of renewable energy.

Addressing the SAARC regional conference on 'Energy Efficiency and Clean Development Mechanism' organized on the occasion of SAARC Car Rally 2007, Minister Mahat also said Nepal deserved extensive potential of hydro power. He also suggested that Nepal needed to extend the investment to the storable hydro power projects.

Speaking on the occasion, state minister for Water Resources Gyandendra Bahadur Karki said Nepal should generate 5000 MW electricity within coming 10 years and private sector should support in achieving this estimation.

On the occasion, Imtalaz Ahmed, Ambassador of Bangladesh for Nepal said that environment could be conserved through utilizing the renewable wastage.

Car rally for regional cooperation

On the same occasion, Chandi Raj Dhakal, president of the Federation of Nepal Chamber of Commerce and Industry said SAARC Car Rally could strengthen goodwill, cooperation, and help in bilateral trade investment, tourism promotion, and extension and the development of culture among the SAARC countries.

SAARC Car Rally 2007, a biggest regional event of its kind, is being conducted from 15th with the major objectives to promote regional connectivity, people-to-people contact, goodwill, trade, tourism and business among the member states.

The rally that started from Cox Bazaar of Bangladesh on 15th March 2007 is in Nepal now.
