Food supply obstructed in Manang district

Food supply has been blocked to Far-flung Manang district of western Nepal as the road obstructed two week back has not been maintained.

Mules are the only one means of transportation in the Far-flung Manang district as no motor road adjoins the district. The food stuffs and other consumer goods have not been transported in the district after Nepal Army exploded the bomb in Syange of Beshisahar-Chame road section while constructing the road that triggered landslides.

BP Lama, a local said the district has begun to face food shortage due to the road blockage. According to him, the essential commodities such as rice, salt, oil have not been imported in the district for two weeks.

Ram Chandra Khanal, an employee at Manang Food Corporation said corporation has not food stock. According to him, 2200 quintal of rice is annually imported in Manang district alone.

Due to the road obstruction, export of potato and apple has been discontinued leaving a heavy loss to the farmer. A task Force responsible for the road construction said it will take more 20 days to remove to blockage.
