During the first eleven months of the current fiscal year, a total of 176,115 people left Nepal for foreign employment. The number increased by 6.9 percent compared to the same period last year.
According to a report by the Department of Labor and Employment Promotion (DoLEP), the number of Nepalese workers leaving for Saudi Arabia, the third largest country absorbing Nepali laborer after Malaysia and Qatar, increased by 115 percent to 32,949 during the 11 months compared to that in the same period last year.
In case of UAE and Kuwait, the number went up to 20,512 and 2,057 setting a growth record of 32 and 222 percent respectively.
However, the number of Nepalese workers leaving for Malaysia and Qatar decreased by 13.5 and 9.1 percent respectively. During first eleven months of the current fiscal year, 65,455 and 50,540 Nepalese left for Malaysia and Qatar respectively, said the report of DoLEP.
Foreign employment agencies said that the main cause of fall in labour export to Malaysia was 20 percent levy of Malaysian Government. As for the labour fall in Qatar, they said that there was no job market as it used to be.
