The capital city has seen crisis of petroleum products Wednesday as Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) cut supply citing fast depletion of fuel stock at Thankot. Long queues of vehicles are seen in the petrol pumps and the vehicular movement has thinned.
On Wednesday, NOC distributed 96,000 liters of petrol, which was less by more than one third of the normal regular demand. It was mostly distributed through institutional dealers run by public agencies.
Bishwa Nath Goyal, chief of the NOC said petroleum products from Raxaul, which supplies some 80 percent demand has not been received for over two weeks.
“We have already apprised the government that we will not be able to supply fuel to even the PM's vehicle in a couple of days if nothing is done. Unfortunately, nothing is being done,” a report quoted Goyal as saying.
According to NOC, its stock of petrol at Thankot has dropped to a level of two days' supplies with no convincing sign of replenishment soon.
